CONGRATULATIONS TO ROMERO BROWN
1999 & 2003 SUCCESS AWARD WINNER!
Romero Brown has been a client of Northland Pioneer College
SBDC for six years. He started Navajoland Days Inn in 1999
with the assistance of Director Mark Engle, who provided technical
assistance in developing a business plan and obtaining financing.
Despite great obstacles faced in construction and development of this
project, Romero persisted with the overall goal of employing Navajo
people in private business pursuits to provide financial stability for
the reservation. Today, Navajoland Days Inn provides full time
employment for fifty Navajos.
The Denny’s Restaurant Romero recently added is the first Denny’s
to be located on Navajoland, but hopefully the first of many. They held
their Grand Opening January 26th, officiated by Navajo President
Joseph Shirley, Jr. and State Representative Sylivia Laughter.
They commenced operations for the new restaurant, which will be
open twenty-four hours, seven days per week, with over 100 new employees.
Mr. Brown credits the Small Business Development Center with providing
the needed assistance and support, and refers them regularly to others who
hope to see their small business dreams become reality on the reservation.
